The Omnivore's Hundred (Meme)

"Here’s a chance for a little interactivity for all the bloggers out there. Below is a list of 100 things that I think every good omnivore should have tried at least once in their life. The list includes fine food, strange food, everyday food and even some pretty bad food – but a good omnivore should really try it all. Don’t worry if you haven’t, mind you; neither have I, though I’ll be sure to work on it. Don’t worry if you don’t recognise everything in the hundred, either; Wikipedia has the answers."

1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
4) Optional extra: Post a comment here at www.verygoodtaste.co.uk linking to your results.
The VGT Omnivore’s Hundred:

1.
I am on and off. I kind of don't know what to do with myself. I miss all you guys very much. :(

Giving serious consideration to transferring to art school. Lately creative things are the only ones that give me any sense of accomplishment.

Update: I think I just re-made an internet/Bard/high school/comic book friend, though. :D She is responsible for this icon. Thank you, Shana. You are a winner.

cosplay advice pls?

Okay, so, we are totally doing a PRINCESS TUTU group to AB, fuck yeah. I = Rue, Kelly = Mytho, Cate = Ahiru.

The only problem is, my favorite outfit of Rue's is the one she wears for like... 3 seconds... literally... in the opening sequence.

I only have one screencap of it, but you can see it in the opening here at 1:00. I did a sketch, too (hooray I am shit at watercolors), but I don't have a scanner so that will have to wait.

BOOBS.

So, I wanted to ask the opinion of my illustrious flist:

- Will I be recognizable, with Kelly and Cate?
- Does it matter if I'm recognizable?
- Will people think it's an original design? (I disapprove of them on principle)
- Should I just do another outfit?
- I want to make the bodice velveteen and the skirt habotai, I think. Should I make the trim on the bodice gold cording, or ribbon, or what?

inb4 GO TO BED CLAUDIA

AND ALSO, IF ANY OF YOU WANT TO BE OUR FAKIR, I WILL MAKE YOU AN OUTFIT IF YOU CAN'T, AND WE WILL LOVE YOU FOR FREAKING EVER.

hair

I went for a trim today, and they cut off 1/2 an inch, a precious 2 months of growth. I hate my stupid hair. 6 in/year is the average... mine had grown 3. 1/2 inch makes a bigger difference than you'd think, and it now looks AURGHSHORT. It is very discouraging, and I am pretty bummed about it.

On the plus side, this is so far the most blissful vacation this year. Thanksgiving and Intersession both pretty much sucked balls.

I am going to be making myself a pair of 18th-century stays i.e. a corset. I'm not totally sure what color or pattern to use... it looks like most of the actual period ones were plan color with accents (example), so I'll probably go with that, even though my pattern isn't totally accurate. I found this gorgeous dupioni in Home Dec at Jo-Ann today... it was like 20 bucks a yard. I still kind of want to make a dress out of it D:

Bought some embroidery floss and silk flowers to get my craftin' on.

BEAM DOWN THE MESSIAH.

I thought you guys should know: the creche at my local church is still up. As the 12 Days of Christmas is well over, it is time for Alien Baby Jesus to arrive.

I bought a little baby doll and painted him mostly green, but I'm not totally satisfied with the color or texture, really. I should probably get some spray paint to make it smooth... airbrushing would be ideal, but obviously I don't have an airbrush.

I also have to the church in the dead of night at some point this week... to Make the Change. Or just tuck Alien Baby Jesus in there with his twin, either way.

various plans

things I am going to buy once I get some moneys:

- corsets (labellefairy underbust, possibly Madam Red overbust with straps and pleated bottom trim, possibly an obi fabric underbust)
- fabric for cosplay (Madam Red, Victorian burlesque for Comicon)
- boots (Frye, Anthro and/or Fluevog)
- a kimono outfit or two
- wigs for cosplay (from Cyperous)
- BPAL perfumes

Meanwhile, I am getting off my ass about working out regularly again. I am also trying another week without any pure carb foods... unfortunately I cannot start sewing anything until I lose some more weight. Going to make Madam Red's first suit, out of either silk twill or taffeta.

'09 Cosplay Plans:

Comicon:
- Victorian burlesque; I may do one accurate outfit and one more fanciful feather-bustle one, not sure)

AB:
- Madam Red (Kuroshitsuji)
- Shotgun (Before Crisis)
- Fuu (Magic Knight Rayearth); still somewhat tentative.

Otakon:
- Soubi (Loveless): coat version; tentative.
- Allen (D. Gray-man), wearing Mara's costume
- possibly some Yuuko dress, or Fuu if we don't do it at AB.

I want to fit a New and Improved Earl Cain group somewhere in there, too... I've recruited between 1 and 3 of my college friends. :D

I think there must be a Murphy's Law that when a manga I like is made into an anime, any character I plan to cosplay will be animated in my least favorite of their outfits.

On the plus side, I actually bear a fairly decent resemblance to anime Madam Red.

On the minus side, I am definitely doing manga version, as I don't want to wear that mermaid skirt, so yeah. bustles ftw. I also don't know a) what fabric to do it of (I think all dupioni would be too ostentatious) and b) how the fuck to make that hat.

Unrelatedly, I've been getting really bummed out in the evenings lately. It must be the seasons. I can bring my sun lamp from home after Halloween; I really really hope that will help, 'cause otherwise, I am doomed to daily misery.

Oh, and I voted today!

in which my feet swell up

My shoes that fit me last week don't fit me.

Being sick makes your feet swell up? I suppose my body is probably retaining water...

Also, because of not having any money or time for fabric to get here from SilkBaron/sew while at school, I may have to put together Cheshire Cat costume for Halloween mostly from my closet. Red velvet pants + grey striped waistcoat? The velvet should be vaguely reminiscent of fur, and the Cat is described as being striped... I need ears and a tail, though. I also need to re-dye my hair.

I ate too much burrito for dinner, I feel huge and bloated, ugh. On the plus side I got some really cute clothes at Target--some long-sleeved tops, two skirts (one of which is a sweater type fabric) and a sweater dress. Pictures will be forthcoming if I can find the battery for the digital camera... I also want to scan some various costume sketches I've done, but that requires either fighting with the scanner, going to the library, or, again, finding that damn battery. I'll probably do one of them pretty soon. HDP seems to be clearing up, thank gods. I was also looking for some side pillows for the couch at the Cottage, with plans to show everybody and return them if people didn't like them, but the only ones I found were 30 bucks each, at Target, no less. I might head into the city to check out Urban Outfitters tommorrow for those pillows and/or a lamp for my room... their pillows are expensive, though, I think. I guess I should hit up Macy's or something?

Presidential debates again tonight, start your Maverick Counters.

ETA: yeah, Urban Outfitters pillows are ass expensive. Maybe I'll make some.
